Haut Sassandra Marahoue region

PRESENTATION
The region of Sassandra-Marahoue covers both districts of Haut Sassandra and Marahoue with Daloa as capital city.

POPULATION
This region situated in the west part of the country is predominantly populated by the Bete, Gnamboua, Gouro, Baoule and Malinke peoples.

Daloa
The handicrafts center
The city of Daloa shelters several sculptors, shoemakers, jewelers and merchants of various handicrafts products.
The sacred monkeys of Gbetitapea
Gbetitapea is a small village bordered by a primary forest where sacred monkeys live, hence the name of "sacred monkeys of Gbetitapea".

Elephant Boulder
A strange event happened in the village of Brizeboua and that impressed the whole region. Indeed the legend tells that a hunter has killed an elephant that turned into a boulder. Later, people started calling it the "elephant boulder» which became over time a tourist attraction. The village is located 11 km from Daloa on the axis Vavoua -Daloa.

Bouafle
The National Park of Marahoue
Occupying an area of 101,000 ha, the National Park of Marahoue is characterised by two types of vegetation due to its location from northern savannah and until western forest. It is an important park which aims at preserving flora and wildlife.

Mount Tsui
This mountain has prehistoric vestiges and carved stones.

The Zaouli and Flali masks
The Zaouli/Djela-lou and the Flali are masks belonging to the Gouro country. Those masks have protective virtues and are characterized by the fineness of their features. They are followed by 7 other masks who perform the one after the other.

Issia
In this city you can find the famous little dancers of the Village of Gaponoroghue called the “Issia little dancers”

Zuenoula
The mask sculptors and statuettes of Boikohifla.

Vavoua
The Rafael Museum of Alladjekro, amulets museum.
