Indenie-Djuablin Region

PRESENTATION

This region of ​​8,000 km² includes 03 districts: Abengourou, Agnibilékrou and Béttié. It is located in the east-centre part of Côte d’Ivoire with Abengourou as the main regional center.

POPULATION

The Agni (Ndenian, Djuablin, Abbey) natives live in perfect harmony with local populations from other areas of the country and also with foreign peoples.

TOURIST SITES AND ATTRACTIONS

The hipopotamuses of Aniassué
In this village is a natural park known for the hipopotamuses that it shelters.

St. Thérèse de l’Enfant Jésus Cathedral of Abengourou
It is an architectural jewel in the region. A must-see attraction.

Museum of Binger in Zaranou
This ethnographic museum preserves ornaments, weights that were used to weigh gold, attributes of power, archeology, documents and archives concerning the cultural heritage, photographs ...

Charles Bieth Museum
Founded in 1969, this museum houses one of the country's most renowned schools of painting.

Crama of Abengourou
A lot of exhibitions highlighting the Ivorian’s modern culture and global culture are exposed in this conservatory of Arts and Crafts.

Royal Palace of Abengourou
A museum that relates the history of the kings who succeeded one another on the throne is within the impressive architecture of this palace.

School of fetishes in Tanguelan and Aniassué
Runned by highly influential priestesses of the Akan society during several generations  since half a century.

 

CULTURE

Tam-tam speaker royal dance (kinyan kpli)

The royal dance  footsteps are performed to the sound of the Kinyan kpli in the presence of the king.


The abodan dance
Typical dance of the agni people, it is performed in all circumstances.

The Yam festival
Marking the beginning of a new year and taking place on the "holy" Friday of the wonderful week of February, the Yam festival is the way the Agni people honor the yam, a tuber whose nutritive virtues have permitted their ancestors to resist in rough times during their exodus.
